The identity crisis of the cooperative sector in France (Vargas-Prieto, 2013) highlights the agricultural
council’s important role in strengthening the connection between the cooperative and its members. We
propose a theoretical analysis based on the interaction of different types of cognitive communities
through a new knowledge management approach characterized by the interaction of functional groups
and practice communities: Mode 3. Using five case studies, we have shown that agricultural councillors
play the main role in resolving the identity crisis.
